How BCS Plymouth can help

We specialise and support with complex grief and/or traumatic loss

We can appreciate that any death can evoke complications and trauma. A “derailing” of the normal usually painful process of adapting to the loss of a significant person.

Profound separation distress, invasive memories, inability to accept the loss, emptiness, meaninglessness, inability to live life

More persistent, intense, disabling, life altering, experienced as a severe threat, more demands upon an individual than they have the inner resources and social support to cope with.
Chronic mourning characterised by overwhelming anxiety and sorrow
Prolonged absence of conscious grieving characterised by denial and avoidance of feelings, avoidance of reminders of loss etc.

How to get started

To get started you would need a referral from your GP. Once this is received, we would need confirmation that you would like our help. We are fully self-funded and rely on donations and grants to provide our service. There is no charge for services.

Number of sessions

The number of sessions that you might need will vary greatly depending on the complexity of the grieving process. Each session is for 1 hour and on a weekly basis which will be reviewed throughout. It is usual for a client to work with the same counsellor throughout. If you feel you are unable to work with your allotted counsellor, we can look at allocating another counsellor to you.

How we work

We can speak to you by telephone, online sessions, or face to face.

Face to face counselling sessions are carried out in counselling rooms at our office at:

Falcon House
Eagle Road
